Am I the only one here that likes silly Butch(Rock Vocal Power) better than serious Butch(Letters). I cannot believe I wasted 18 bucks for that shitty album. It's the most expensive coaster I ever bought. To be fair, I loved D-Gen and I still loved Jesse Malin when he suddenly got lonely and sad and started writing odes to the subway. So I'm not close minded. I mean I love Poison and I love Napalm Death with a bit of Enigma in there. So a musical change is fine, but this whole serious Butch thing sucks. I've been a Butch fan since the Southgang days so I think I have room to talk. Loved the "Left of" disc but Letters has nothing. Absoultely nothing.

I like "Mixtape", but overall I'm a much bigger fan of the humorous Butch than I am the new version of him. The only thing I can think is that Butch has put out four cds between his solo cd and the Marvelous 3 in the silly lyrics vein, and none of them have sold very well. This "Letters" cd is probably his last shot at stardom, and I guess he figured he might as well try something a little different...

I think the new Letters cd is awesome.
I love it when a musician does a style change on new releases...Keeps it new.
Look at it this way...if Butch kept being the funny Butch...it would get old...so to me this style of direction on Letters is what Butch needed to do. Awesome CD.
To me a musician that keeps doing the same thing over and over...the music get's boring and repetitive.

in my opinion, the new disk is not that good. change of direction or not, it's just not a good disk. 2 or three strong songs and then a bunch of filler. i could understand trying to do something a little more mainstream for his last shot at stardom, good luck to him with that, but it is just not a disk that stands out. yeah, i'm sure to some hardcore Marv3/Butch fans it does but i have played it to some people who have no idea who Butch is and the overall response was, "boring, change it please." (and no, they are not goth/industrial/hardcore people)
and speaking of Jesse Malin, i was awakened this morning to "hey, isn't that the singer of DGeneration?" Jesse's video was on VH1 this morning. That was pretty cool.

Bill....hahaha.
I too was like Wait...Isn't THAT????...oh it is! after I saw Jesse's vid on VH1. Way cool to wake up in the morning and see it. Also, I think VH1 has put it as a morning vid roster..cuz I've seen it like 5 times already...and each time it's been in the wee mornings about 7 central time.

I have to say that I luv the new Letters CD, yeh it's a slight change in direction, but hey I didn't like 'Left of Self Centered' in the slightest, thought it was a VERY weak effort from such a talent.
Letters is a lil' slower and not so upbeat but it's still got that addictive and catchy Butch twist to it, my favourite track on Letters is 'Joan', and lets face it you don't get much slower, yeh the songs aren't so M3 but I recon they definately have substance and a quality that is always gonna be hard to beat just because of the person that penned them...
I guess it just depends what ya looking for in a CD, but I think it's a goody!....

I'm with you on this Raggz. And its not like he didn't make it completely CLEAR that this was NOT going to be "funny Butch". He said about 76 BILLION times that this was a much more serious and emotional disk. Funny Butch is great.. but I happen to think the new disk is amazing. Perhaps I relate to it more or I was just ready for the loss of his "wit" in the songs. I think he just had some things to get off his chest and used this disk to do so. Also, its got to be difficult being in his situation (seriously). You're a musician who LOVES to play and LOVES to tour.. but your production skills are out weighing your musical abilities.. when you can't get your records to sell like you would but yet everything you produce is busting top 10... rolling stone makes you the hot producer of the month or whatever.. maybe it was time to make a change in styles... Or maybe he just doesn't care what we think lol... who knows. .its art. Not everyone will like what everyone else does..

I'm with Ty on this...What is STARDOM anyways?
I didn't know that when a musician makes a different style album cuz that's what he wanted to do....tha it was his last chance?..and let alone Last Chance Of Stardom???...When did these rules enter the laws of a Musician???...tell me cuz I want to know....LOL!!!...kinda funny how when a musician does a change...all of a sudden the reason is because it's his last chance to make it???...I don't think Butch really cares if he's a star or not...he just loves putting his music out. On Second thought....I wouldn't want to make a cd that was the last chance to stardom...cuz then that would mean MTV would play it all damn day...and MTV plays nothing but shit for music so I wouldn't want that for myself...haha...Just an opinion...take it dammit take it!!!!
